Lots of potential, missing key configuration points

Pros: I love the minimalistic and simplistic style of Monotony. There is nothing I enjoy the most than having a piece of software work easily. It runs on the background and starts up automatically. No much hassle there. Cons: I could not find a single way to configure the app. News notifications will appear and disappear quicker than I can reach them. Sometimes three will appear at the same time, giving me not much room to read them all. It does not connect me to previous notifications, forcing me to open another app or search for the news topic using Safari. Overall: It has a lot of potential. I appreciate this app coming free, and I think that with some options like notification delay and past notifications would enhance the experience a lot.

Monotony

This is a very nice application. It runs completely in the background unless you enable its menubar functionality, which will display a simple icon. Also, the price is right. The only problem with it is that notifications come and go very quickly. A notification will appear and disapear after about 5 seconds, with no option to keep them around. This can be a problem if you leave your computer when a update appears. Why not integrate this with Mountain Lions Notification Center? This would allow the user to configure their preferences for how alerts should be displayed while still remaining seamless.

The missing Mountain Lion feature

Does EXACTLY what its purported to do. Mountain Lion should have had a feature like this, especially with the removal of RSS support in Mail and Safari.

GREAT!

I love Monotony. I use it to be notified of breaking news (CNN, Fox, Reuters, etc.) Great!

Just a bit too simple.

Monotony is very efficient at subscribing to feeds and any level on a site, and the fact that it uses Growl and Notifications means one less panel list that other apps create. However, I cant use it because some of my feed servers get really annoyed and threaten bans when it is called every minute -- a setting is needed here. Also, there is no way to edit URLs once they are set up, which would be very helpful when servers provide additional strings to fine-tune searches and responses.

Great!

Thank you very much!

Doesnt work...

When I try to add a feed, it hangs indefinitely and the app is therefore useless. I like the idea but this bug needs to be fixed!

Great app but needs an update to support Feedburner and Notification Center

As soon as they are added then hhe utility of this app will greatly improve. I want to be able to have a background running app notify me of RSS feed updates and leave them in the notification center for a time if I want to check them out. Gone will be the anxiety and overwhelmed feeling when I look at the unread count -- that I am not reading every update for everyone of the many feeds subscribed. This is the niche this app may fit into nicely when updated.

Rss Feeds Not showing in Notification Center

I hope i did not waste my money . The app is showing up in configuration pannel of Notifications but no rss feeds from added websites .

This does nothing (so far)

No notifications…. waste of money. Please fix so others wont be greatly dissapointed too. UPDATE: now working occasionally

Nice when it works, but some old news items get repeated over and over

This generally works for me, but a very annoying issue is that some old news items on some sites are getting repeated as "news" over and over again. It means that I get notified of the same weeks-old "news" item several times a day This is something Ive now seen on different sites and over a period of time, so Im not ranting about something that just happened once. It seems to help to restart the app, but it should be fixed. Therefore Im giving 3/5 for now. Id give 5/5 if this wouldnt be happening.

I wish it would work… :(

I am running on 10.7 with growl and everytime I try to subscribe to a feed it crashes. When I re-launch it acts as if it had done nothing at all. I realize that it was using a lot of memory when subscribing, perhaps this is the reason why. If it that could be fixed I would greatly appreciate it. I would prefer not to spend money on other RSS readers if this one works. Otherwise the GUI looks great! Seems like a great product.

Can

Ive tried adding some feeds from google reader and every time I try to add it results in a popop saying "Error: Something went wrong! bad Url". I tried with and without the http:// no difference. Curious why those who left positive feedback arent having this problem, but whatever this problem is its a total showstopper for me

All good, but..

App works - good. But the main feature for all RSS-readers "subscribing by browser invocation" or "Finders invoke for registered MIME-type" are not work.

Pleasing aesthetic. Lack of functionality.

Pleasing aesthetic; simplicity is appreciated. However, as I have it on a laptop and as it only functions when the computer is awake, I dont receive any notifications of anything published while my computer is closed, e.g., at night, when Ive gone to bed. For me, this makes the thing rather useless.

Gets the Job Done, but missing little things

I have no issue with the app or its integration into the notification bar/growls. I do wish it would tell me which feed is alerting at this time. I have to click on the preview and view every notification just to understand the context.

Works as advertised

Works exactly as advertised and works complementary to your default RSS Reader. I find the lack of too many ‘features’ valuable.

Useless without sync

Would be a great little app if it found new posts when it started up after being shut down. Without that it is useless. The description of that app explicitly says this, to give the author credit.

Almost Native

It works almost like a native app, opening articles in the default browser.
